MERCER STREET FRIENDS FOOD COOPERATIVE

Mercer Street Friends Food Cooperative provides social service agencies and charitable organizations such as emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, group homes and halfway houses, child care centers, after school programs and rehabilitation programs with nutritious low-cost and no-cost food. Food is distributed on a weekly basis from the Cooperative’s warehouse. Volunteers provide most of the labor. They unload the delivery truck, sort and stack incoming food, assemble food orders, and help load the outgoing food. They also organize canned food drives and help to sort and box the donated can goods.

This grant was applied to the building fund for the new warehouse that is to serve as the permanent home for their Food Cooperative.
